However, as Apple is competing with an app that is on multiple ecosystems (Windows Mobile, Android, iOS, FireOS) the clear winner is that WhatsApp is used by both the FaceTime users and everyone else.įor many relatives and friends, FaceTime is an easy way to communicate and keep in touch. If it was a philosophical question on which smartphone is better then the argument would be much more complex and we would ultimately be left without a clear winner with most likely an Apple vs Android fanboy faceoff. Apple is Not Just Competing with Android Anymore However, many FaceTime users use WhatsApp daily. The flipside of that last sentence is that FaceTime does not have a universal reach as it can only be used on iOS products and due to it's hardwares premium price tag has a lower market penetration. Therefore if you want to communicate easily with someone then WhatsApp is the easiest way. In essence it has a huge and varied user base across countries and devices. Although WhatsApp isn't built in to the underlying operating system of many smart phones (like FaceTime in iPhone, and previously Skype on the Three carrier), it does have universal reach and is a unifying modern messaging platform across devices.
